As the National Archives of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the Presbyterian Historical Society collects, preserves, and shares the story of the American Presbyterian experience. PHS safeguards irreplaceable historical documents chronicling the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, global missions, the Civil Rights Movement, and congregational and ecumenical history. Its professional archival staff also consults with congregations on how to best organize and care for their official records, and assists them in creating preservation strategies.
PHS serves hundreds of researchers every year and offers fellowships to emerging scholars whose research will draw greater cultural knowledge through PHS’s rich collections. Through its multimedia educational programs—traveling exhibits, oral history series, and publications including the Journal of Presbyterian History—PHS reaches individual Presbyterians and congregations around the world.
