Getting Started 

 

What is online giving, and who can establish a fund?

Our Online Giving Program is designed to allow Presbyterian congregations and organizations, as well as Presbyterian-related 501c3 charities, a way to offer an easy online, electronic giving option to their supporterswith the money collected going straight back to the organization. This is accomplished through the establishment of one or more funds through the Presbyterian Foundation.

 

My church/ministry wants to offer online giving to our supporters. How can we get started?

What does it cost to open an Online Giving Fund and start offering online giving, and are there monthly maintenance or transaction fees?

Getting started is free!

        • No setup fee
        • No monthly maintenance fees
        • No transaction fee for withdrawals.

While there are no upfront costs or monthly charges, transaction fees do apply for donations:

        • A 1% administration fee will be deducted from each gift before it is deposited into your fund; this fee is for the reasonable and customary costs of operation of the Presbyterian Mission Exchange.
        • Gifts made using credit or debit cards are assessed an additional fee of 2.598%+$0.26 (deducted automatically by our card processing vendor at the time of donation).

Is there a minimum balance requirement?

No minimum balance is required. Funds may be opened with a zero balance, and the full balance of the fund may be withdrawn at any time. There is a minimum withdrawal amount of $100 for each fund.

 

Can we have more than one fund online?

Yes, you may have more than one fund. Many of our partners will establish a "General Fund" alongside other funds, such as a building campaign or youth ministry. While there is currently no limit to the number of funds you may establish, please keep in mind that there is a minimum withdrawal amount of $100 for each fund. Too many funds could spread your donations out so that no one fund meets the withdrawal minimum.

 

 

Gifts

 

Will our donors receive a confirmation of the gift(s) for tax purposes?

Yes, per IRS requirements, a written acknowledgement is provided by email to the donor at the time of each gift. Donors should retain this acknowledgement for tax reporting purposes. No year-end summary will be provided.

 

How will we know when our organization has received gifts? Will we receive a monthly statement of gifts?

Email notifications of gifts are provided to the fund administrators you designate. Administrators may also log in HERE to the Presbyterian Mission Exchange to view donor and gift information. Since donor and gift information is always available online to be viewed and downloaded, no monthly statements are provided.

 

Can the fund administrators turn off the email notifications for donations?

No, all individuals authorized to administer your funds will receive this fund correspondence.

 

How do I view and/or export the gifts our organization has received?

Click HERE for illustrated instructions on viewing and exporting gift and donor information. Please keep in mind that gifts are processed and visible online to administrators within one business day of receipt of the donation.

 

Our organization discourages the use of credit cards. Can we opt out of accepting them?

Our online donation form is configured to accept Electronic Funds Transfers (from donors' checking or savings accounts), as well as credit and debit cards. This form is standard for all of our Ministry Partners and is not customizable. We do encourage the responsible use of credit cards, but you may specifically wish to promote giving via the Electronic Funds Transfer option.

 

 

Withdrawals

 

Now that we have received gifts, how do we make a withdrawal?

Once gifts have been received, the fund administrators you designate may log in to the Presbyterian Mission Exchange and submit a withdrawal request. Requests must be for a minimum of $100 and will be delivered by direct deposit to your organization's bank account within 1-2 business days. Will we receive a check in the mail?

No, to deliver your money safely and quickly, all withdrawals are disbursed by direct deposit to your organization's bank account. The organization's banking information is collected as part of the Online Giving Fund application and does not have to be provided on each withdrawal.

 

 

Administration

 

How do we remove a fund administrator's access and authorize someone new?

Only authorized fund administrators may submit requests to authorize or suspend administrative access to fund administrators, add or close existing funds, or submit changes to the profile page.

How do we create a new fund or close an existing fund?

Only authorized fund administrators may submit requests to open additional funds not included on the original application or requests to close existing funds by email. Click HERE to send us your request.

 

Does your system integrate with my church's accounting software?

Yes, donor and gift information can be exported by fund administrators to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet which can then be uploaded to your software. Click HERE for illustrated instructions on exporting donor and gift information. Please note: If included in your financial software, these gifts should include a disclaimer that they were made through the Presbyterian Mission Exchange and that acknowledgement was provided to the donors by the Presbyterian Foundation at the time of the gifts for their tax reporting purposes. While thank you cards are acceptable and encouraged, no further gift acknowledgement should be provided.

 

 

Miscellaneous

 

Is donor information kept private?

Yes, the Presbyterian Mission Exchange and all transactions follow Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliance Data Security Standards. You can also see a copy of the Presbyterian Foundation's Privacy Policy at the bottom of this page.

 

Can we customize our organization's profile page or donation form?

You may submit pictures (jpg or gif format, landscape orientation, 5x7"), a video, and/or a mission statement by email HERE, and our staff will post these to your organization's profile page.

Customization to the formatting and/or layout of the profile and donation form pages is unavailable as these pages are standard for all of our online giving partners.

 

Do you have a mobile app?

We do not currently have a mobile app, but our website is accessible via mobile device.

 

Can we change the name of our church that displays on the Presbyterian Mission Exchange?

We are required to display the entity's legal name on our site. The legal name of your congregation can be found HERE on the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s website.
